New Brunswick updates policy to let students under 16 choose school pronouns without parental consent.
New Brunswick's Liberal government, led by Premier Susan Holt, has updated Policy 713 to allow students under 16 to decide how their preferred names and pronouns are used at school, with parental awareness encouraged but not required for informal use.
Parental consent is still needed for formal use.
The changes take effect on January 1, 2025, reversing the previous government's policy requirements.
