Manitowoc Company to pay $42.6M for violating Clean Air Act with diesel cranes.

Manitowoc Company and its subsidiaries will pay a $42.6 million civil penalty to settle charges of violating the Clean Air Act by importing and selling cranes with diesel engines that did not meet emission standards. As part of the settlement, the company will also retrofit a short-line locomotive in Maryland to reduce emissions. The deal must be approved by a court after a 30-day public comment period.
