Inspector General rules deadly force justified in West Hartford police shooting, family sues.
The Office of the Inspector General has ruled that the use of deadly force by West Hartford police officer Andrew Teeter was justified in the August 2023 shooting of 34-year-old Mike Alexander-Garcia.
The incident occurred after Alexander-Garcia stole a car and attempted to steal others, leading to a confrontation where Teeter fired shots after Alexander-Garcia started the vehicle and struck police cars.
Despite the ruling, Alexander-Garcia's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit, arguing that non-lethal methods could have been used.
