Northrop Grumman lands $3.5B contract to build E-130J, a new nuclear command communications aircraft for the U.S. Navy.

The U.S. Navy awarded Northrop Grumman a $3.5 billion contract to develop the E-130J, a new aircraft for nuclear command communications, replacing the E-6B Mercury. Northrop Grumman will integrate mission systems, including the Collins Aerospace Very Low Frequency communications system, onto C-130J-30 planes made by Lockheed Martin. The E-130J is part of the U.S. nuclear modernization effort, alongside new submarines and bombers.
