New Jersey report: Police often waive tickets for drivers with police connections or courtesy cards.

New Jersey's Office of the State Comptroller has found that police officers often give preferential treatment to drivers who show police courtesy cards or claim connections to law enforcement, allowing them to avoid tickets even for serious violations like speeding and drunk driving. In nearly 28% of cases reviewed, drivers were let off with a warning or no action at all. The report, based on body camera footage, includes 11 recommendations, such as prohibiting preferential treatment based on connections or cards.
