Lawmakers aim to extend duty-free access for Haitian goods to U.S. markets for five more years.

Lawmakers in South Florida are pushing to extend the Haitian Economic Lift Program, which grants duty-free access to U.S. markets for Haitian apparel and textiles. The program, set to expire next year, would be renewed for five more years if included in the upcoming stopgap spending bill. The American Apparel and Footwear Association supports this move, arguing it will bolster Haiti's manufacturing sector and U.S. jobs. However, the association is disappointed the bill does not renew similar trade programs for Africa.
