A Hercules plane's engine fault stranded rescue staff in New Caledonia, delaying aid to Vanuatu.

A Hercules plane carrying urban rescue staff to Vanuatu from New Zealand was stranded in New Caledonia due to an engine fault, causing delays in critical humanitarian efforts. A newer C-130J plane was sent to Vanuatu with search and rescue equipment and personnel, while another C-130H was dispatched to New Caledonia to pick up the urban rescue staff. Former Defence Minister Peeni Henare criticized the use of older planes and highlighted the need for investment in the New Zealand Defence Force, calling the delays embarrassing.
