Georgia to resume permitting new agricultural wells along Flint River, ending a decade-long ban.

Georgia will start accepting applications for new agricultural wells in areas along the lower Flint River on April 1, following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that rejected Florida's lawsuit accusing Georgia of overusing water. The move ends a decade-long ban on drilling new wells, imposed in 2012 during a drought. New wells must stop operating during severe droughts to protect water levels in the Flint River and must be connected to less wasteful irrigation systems.
