Delta dump truck tires fell off, striking a vehicle and injuring driver; driver fined $700.

On Nov. 28, two tires from a Delta dump truck fell off on Highway 1, striking a vehicle and causing non-life-threatening injuries to driver Leanne Smith. The 60-year-old dump truck driver was fined nearly $700 for a false pre-trip report and for having an unsuitable vehicle for the highway. The Commercial Vehicle and Safety Enforcement (CVSE) is investigating, and additional fines may be issued. In Ontario, such incidents are considered serious offenses with fines up to $50,000, while British Columbia enforces immediate penalties.
