Tortoise Media acquires The Observer, planning a £25 million digital revamp while keeping the Sunday print edition.

Tortoise Media has acquired The Observer from The Guardian Media Group, marking the end of over 200 years of shared ownership. Tortoise plans to invest £25 million in The Observer, creating a daily digital platform with a new website, podcasts, and video content, while maintaining the Sunday print edition. The first edition under Tortoise's ownership is expected in spring, with Lucy Rock set to lead the print edition and Tortoise co-founder James Harding as editor-in-chief.
