The 15-foot "Independent Man" statue, a symbol of Rhode Island for over a century, is being returned to its perch atop the State House dome after a $2 million restoration. Removed due to cracks in its base, the bronze statue was cleaned, corrosion removed, and re-gilded with gold leaf. The restoration process took a year and the statue is set to be reinstated on Wednesday.
