Over 360 Cubans have died trying to reach Florida since 2020, fleeing economic crisis.

Since 2020, at least 368 Cubans have died or disappeared trying to reach Florida across the perilous Caribbean waters, fleeing Cuba's economic crisis. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) tracks these "invisible shipwrecks." In 2022 alone, 130 migrants died, marking the deadliest year on record. Over 700,000 Cubans entered the U.S. legally or illegally between January 2022 and August 2024, while many more risk their lives on dangerous sea journeys.
