The demolition of the former E2 nightclub building in Chicago, where 21 people died in a 2003 stampede, has begun due to structural risks. Despite initial efforts to landmark the building, city officials issued an emergency order for its demolition after finding multiple hazardous violations. Owner Randy Shifrin plans to construct affordable housing and a memorial for the victims on the site.
