Yurok Tribe to reclaim 125 acres near Redwood Parks, planning cultural revival and conservation.
The Yurok Tribe is set to reclaim 125 acres of land near Redwood National and State Parks in California, lost to them during the Gold Rush era. Scheduled for return in 2026, the land will be managed in a first-of-its-kind partnership with the Save the Redwoods League, California State Parks, and the National Park Service. Plans include building new trails, a traditional Yurok village, and a visitor center to highlight Yurok culture and history. The tribe aims to restore salmon populations and use traditional fire management practices to prevent wildfires.
