Sculptor restores Milan's Duomo statues, damaged over centuries, with help from corporate sponsors.
Sculptor Giovanni Calderino is restoring statues on Milan's Duomo, replacing damaged ones caused by weather, pollution, and WWII bombings. One recent replica is a 200-year-old statue of a bearded man in a tunic. The restoration, using traditional techniques with modern aid, involves over 3,400 Candoglia marble statues. Companies can "adopt" a statue for €25,000 annually, receiving tax breaks and a piece of Duomo history.
