Northern Ireland police illegally spied on journalists making a documentary, tribunal rules.

A tribunal in Northern Ireland has ruled that the Police Service of Northern Ireland and the Metropolitan Police unlawfully spied on journalists Trevor Birney and Barry McCaffrey, who made a documentary on the Loughinisland massacre. The tribunal ordered the PSNI to pay £4,000 each in damages to the journalists, after finding that the surveillance was unlawful.
