Connecticut is forgiving $30 million in medical debt for nearly 23,000 low-income residents.

Connecticut is eliminating $30 million in medical debt for nearly 23,000 residents through a partnership with the nonprofit Undue Medical Debt. This initiative, funded by $6.5 million from federal relief funds, targets residents with incomes at or below four times the federal poverty level or those with medical debt exceeding 5% of their income. No application is required, and residents will receive a notification if their debt is forgiven. This is the first of several planned rounds aimed at eliminating up to $1 billion in medical debt for an estimated 250,000 Connecticut residents.
