Greece nearly doubles its 2025 defense budget to €6.1 billion, largely due to tensions with Turkey.

Greece's parliament has approved a 2025 budget, nearly doubling defense spending to €6.1 billion from €3.6 billion due to increased equipment deliveries. The rise in defense spending, now at around 3% of annual economic output, is higher than most EU states and mainly due to tensions with Turkey. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis also outlined measures to improve banking operations for citizens, including ending charges for many banking transactions.
