Doctors Without Borders halts rescue operations in Mediterranean due to Italian migration policies.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has ceased operations on its rescue vessel, Geo Barents, in the Central Mediterranean due to restrictive Italian laws and policies. Since 2015, MSF has rescued about 94,000 people in the area, but the Geo Barents, operational since June 2021, has faced four detentions and 160 days in port. MSF criticizes Italy's counter-migration policies, which make rescue work difficult, but remains committed to resuming rescue activities in the future.
