India launches 'Jalvahak' scheme to boost river cargo transport, aiming 200M tons by 2030.

India has launched the 'Jalvahak' scheme to boost long-haul cargo transportation via the Ganges, Brahmaputra, and Barak rivers. The scheme offers up to 35% reimbursement on operating costs for cargo movement over 300 km, valid for three years. It aims to decongest railways and roads, promote sustainable transport, and increase cargo traffic on waterways. The target is 200 million metric tons by 2030 and 500 million by 2047.
