University of Dubuque announces new medical school, backed by $60M donation, to combat physician shortage.

The University of Dubuque plans to open a new four-year medical school named the John and Alice Butler College of Osteopathic Medicine, following a $60 million donation. This will be Iowa's first new medical school in over 125 years, aiming to address the projected physician shortage in the U.S. by training more doctors using a whole-person approach to healthcare. The university already offers nursing and physician assistant programs and will seek necessary approvals and accreditation for the new medical college.
