Three individuals pleaded guilty in the murder of a tribal member on the Choctaw Reservation.
Three individuals have pleaded guilty to their roles in the murder of a tribal member on the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians' Reservation. Michael Shaffer Sr., 48, and Montero Willis, 22, are accused of the shooting, while Deyonkia Willis, 30, acted as an accessory after the fact. The murder occurred in September 2023. All three were indicted by a federal grand jury in November. Shaffer and Montero Willis face up to life in prison for second-degree murder, while Deyonkia Willis faces up to 15 years. Sentencing dates are yet to be determined.
