The MTA mails OMNY tap-to-pay cards to 1.5M reduced-fare riders, phasing out Metrocard.
The MTA has started mailing OMNY tap-to-pay cards to 1.5 million reduced-fare transit riders, including seniors and those with disabilities, phasing out the Metrocard. Currently, 65% of subway riders use the OMNY system, which lets users pay with tap-to-pay cards or smartphones. The transition is expected to be complete by mid-next year, with more OMNY vending machines planned for card refills.
