McKinsey & Company pays $650M to settle charges of aiding Purdue Pharma in opioid sales.

McKinsey & Company will pay $650 million to settle federal charges that it aided Purdue Pharma in boosting sales of the opioid OxyContin, contributing to the national addiction crisis. As part of the deal, McKinsey must stop working on the sale, marketing, or promotion of controlled substances for five years to avoid prosecution. A former McKinsey partner also agreed to plead guilty to obstruction of justice for destroying evidence. The settlement marks the first time a consulting firm has been held criminally responsible for its role in the opioid crisis.
