Atlanta Public Schools Police Department starts hiring officers before academy to address shortages.

Atlanta Public Schools Police Department (APSPD) has launched a new initiative to address officer shortages by hiring recruits before they attend the police academy. Chief Ronald Applin hopes this change will fill 30 current vacancies and accommodate the addition of 45 new School Resource Officers, increasing the total force to 177 officers. The program recently welcomed Officer Kina Lang as its first hire without prior certification.
