UK patients receive world's first app-controlled nerve stimulator implants to treat sleep apnoea.
Patients in the UK have received the first app-controlled nerve stimulator implants for sleep apnoea, offering an alternative to traditional CPAP machines. The Genio Nyxoah implant, which stimulates the hypoglossal nerve controlling the tongue muscles, can be adjusted using a smartphone app. Installed in a three-hour procedure, the implant may provide relief for the eight million UK residents affected by sleep apnoea. The device is controlled by an external chip attached to the chin and can be recharged during the day.
