Nature Conservancy Canada establishes a new conservation area in British Columbia to protect grizzly bears and wildlife.
Nature Conservancy Canada has established the Geddes Creek Conservation Area in British Columbia, adjacent to Kootenay National Park. Covering almost two square kilometers, it includes Douglas fir and spruce forests, open grasslands, and a seasonal creek. The area aims to protect declining wildlife, especially grizzly bears, which use the region for food, mating, and shelter. Funding came from Parks Canada, the Fish & Wildlife Compensation Program, and the Regional District of East Kootenay. NCC is working with Parks Canada and local First Nations to develop conservation plans.
