Lagos State bans illegal organ sales and harvesting, with violators facing up to 10 years in prison.

Lagos State, Nigeria, has passed a new law to prohibit illegal organ harvesting, banning organ sales and requiring proper authorization for harvesting. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also signed four additional laws aimed at protecting consumers, enhancing training for law enforcement, assisting victims and witnesses, and improving fire and rescue services. These laws aim to improve public welfare, safety, and human rights in Lagos. Violators of the organ transplantation law could face up to 10 years in prison or a fine of N10 million.
