Off-duty Maine police sergeant dies after crashing into a stationary truck on a closed bridge.

Off-duty Biddeford Police Sgt. Jacob Wolterbeek, an 18-year veteran, died after his Toyota Camry rear-ended a stationary box truck on the Piscataqua River Bridge. The crash occurred around 1:15 a.m. on the Maine side of the bridge, with traffic halted due to a prior accident in New Hampshire. Wolterbeek was pronounced dead at the scene. The southbound lanes were closed for several hours but have since reopened.
