The MPCC investigates alleged mishandling of a sexual misconduct case against former General Steven Whelan.
The Military Police Complaints Commission (MPCC) is investigating how the military handled the sexual misconduct case against former General Lt.-Gen. Steven Whelan. Whelan was removed from his position in 2021 after a subordinate accused him of misconduct. He was charged in 2022 but the charges were dropped in 2023. Whelan claims the investigation was flawed and unprofessional, and has filed a lawsuit against the federal government and his accuser. If substantiated, his allegations could indicate a deliberate failure to properly investigate the case.
