Federal officer suspended for arresting Indigenous fishers and leaving them barefoot in cold.

A federal fisheries officer in Canada was suspended for 10 days without pay after arresting two Mi'kmaq elver fishers, Kevin Hartling and Blaise Sylliboy, and leaving them without footwear. The incident occurred on March 26 near Shelburne, Nova Scotia, where the officers confiscated the men's phones and hip waders before leaving them at a gas station 45 minutes away. The fishers were forced to walk barefoot in cold temperatures for hours. The Canadian Press confirmed the suspension but could not verify penalties for the two junior officers. Some officers have taken mental health leave to protest the penalties.
