Armed forces and Islamist groups have killed and displaced civilians in Mali since the UN withdrew peacekeepers.

Human Rights Watch reports that Mali's armed forces, backed by the Russia-backed Wagner Group, have killed at least 32 civilians, kidnapped four, and burned over 100 homes since May. Islamist groups have also executed at least 47 civilians and displaced thousands. These abuses have increased since the UN peacekeeping mission withdrew a year ago, heightening concerns over civilian safety in the conflict.
