Alberta's police watchdog, ASIRT, has announced that officers involved in the 2022 shooting death of James Hanna will not face charges. Hanna was watching TV when a stray bullet from a police chase hit him. ASIRT's Michael Ewenson stated the officers were defending themselves from imminent harm, and that while Hanna's death was "extremely unfortunate and tragic," it did not meet the threshold for criminal negligence.
