A new study in The Lancet Planetary Health links air pollution, specifically PM2.5, to 1.5 million deaths annually in India. Researchers found that every 10 microgram per cubic meter increase in PM2.5 levels raises mortality risk by 8.6%. The entire Indian population of 1.4 billion lives in areas exceeding WHO guidelines, with 82% surpassing national standards. The study calls for stricter regulations and measures to reduce emissions.
