Police unit Operation Pegasus arrests 93 in 28 crime groups linked to £4M in retail thefts.

A new police unit, Operation Pegasus, has arrested 93 members of 28 organized crime groups linked to over £4 million in retail thefts since its launch seven months ago. The operation, aimed at tackling a 29% rise in shoplifting to a 20-year high of 469,788 offenses, has also identified 228 previously unknown offenders. Of those arrested, 32 have appeared in court, and five have been deported. Police warn consumers to be cautious of suspiciously cheap items, as they may be stolen goods.
