Irish court condemns hospital for transferring anorexic patient against court order, deeming it a "disgrace."
A High Court judge in Dublin has condemned Mater Misericordiae University Hospital for transferring an anorexic patient in breach of a court order, calling it a "disgrace." The patient, with a rapidly falling BMI, had been ordered for detention and treatment, but was transferred to another medical setting after being assessed as medically stable. The judge criticized the hospital's communication breakdown and urged stricter adherence to court orders. The hospital has since put in place new safeguarding measures.
