South Africa's Education Minister pushes for more student housing, aiming to build 3,500 new beds at TUT.

South Africa's Education Minister, Dr. Nobuhle Nkabane, is pushing universities to allocate more campus land for student housing to improve safety and living conditions. This includes building 3,500 new beds at Tshwane University of Technology over three years, funded by the government and a development bank. A new 200-bed facility for female students at TUT's eMalahleni campus will open in 2025. The initiative also supports vocational training.
