France fines Orange €50M for sending unsolicited ads to millions, violating privacy laws.
France's largest internet operator, Orange, was fined €50 million for sending unsolicited ads that looked like emails to over 7.8 million customers without their consent. The French privacy watchdog, CNIL, imposed the fine due to Orange's violation of anti-spam laws. CNIL also found that Orange continued to send cookies to users who requested to stop receiving them, giving Orange three months to fix this or face more fines.
