The Supreme Court of India commuted death sentences to life imprisonment for three men due to delays in mercy petitions.

The Supreme Court of India upheld the Bombay High Court's decision to replace the death sentences of Pradeep Kokade and Purshottam Borate with life imprisonment for 35 years in the 2007 Pune BPO employee gang rape and murder case. The decision was made due to significant delays in processing their mercy petitions. Additionally, the Bombay High Court overturned Bhagwat Bajirao Kale's death sentence in a 1997 family murder case, citing insufficient grounds for the harsh penalty.
