USA imposes export controls on high-tech HBM chips to China, aiming to curb its AI development.

The US has imposed new export controls on high-tech memory chips called high bandwidth memory (HBM) to China, aiming to slow its development of AI. HBM chips, crucial for fast data transmission in AI applications, are mainly produced by South Korea's SK Hynix, Samsung, and America's Micron. China, lagging in HBM production, is ramping up its own capabilities through companies like Yangtze Memory Technologies and Changxin Memory Technologies. These restrictions are expected to hinder China's progress but not completely block its access to HBM.
