Taxpayers spent over $7.3 million relocating the Powerhouse Museum for a $300 million rebuild.

Taxpayers have spent over $7.3 million to move the Powerhouse Museum's contents to a new storage facility, preparing for a $300 million rebuild. This cost does not include moving the fragile Boulton & Watt steam engine. A $15 million government grant covered the relocation and other expenses, part of $81.5 million allocated to the museum, an increase of about $20 million from the previous year.
