Syrian rebels took Damascus, ousting President Assad after years of civil war, as citizens looted his palaces.

After Syrian rebels seized control of Damascus, leading to President Bashar al-Assad's ouster, groups of Syrians entered his palaces, taking photographs and removing furniture and ornaments. Video obtained by Reuters showed people wandering through the Al-Rawda and Muhajreen Palaces, with some carrying off chairs and vases. Assad has since left the city, ending his family's rule after over 13 years of civil war.
