Cybercrime surges as demand for weight-loss drugs drives consumers to risky online sources.

The demand for weight-loss drugs like Wegovy and Zepbound has fueled a surge in cybercrime, with McAfee reporting a 183% increase in phishing attempts and risky websites since 2023. Consumers, unable to get these expensive drugs due to limited supply and lack of insurance coverage, are turning to unregulated online sources, including social media, where they face scams and counterfeit products. Novo Nordisk has linked 14 deaths and 144 hospitalizations to fake versions of these drugs.
