Brazilian farmer poisoned by UK-banned pesticide exported to Brazil by Syngenta.

A Brazilian tobacco farmer, Valdemar Postanovicz, suffered acute pesticide poisoning from diquat, a chemical banned in the UK but exported to Brazil by Syngenta. The UK exported 8,489 tonnes of banned chemicals to 18 countries last year, with 5,123 tonnes of diquat going to Brazil. The UK's Environment Department claims to exceed international standards by requiring importing countries' consent, but the UN's Dr. Marcos Orellana calls this "modern-day exploitation."
