Al-Julani, leader of a U.S.-designated terrorist group, is seen as a potential leader in Syria with Turkish backing.

Abu Mohammed al-Julani, leader of the Syrian opposition group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), has played a key role in overthrowing President Bashar al-Assad's regime. Born in Saudi Arabia in 1982, al-Julani previously led the Al-Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra. Despite HTS being classified as a terrorist organization by the US, there is speculation that al-Julani may take over Syria's leadership, with Turkish support for a more inclusive governance.
