Kenya plans to extend its railway and improve highways to boost trade with Uganda, Rwanda, and DRC.

Kenyan President William Ruto announced plans to extend Kenya's Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) to Uganda, Rwanda, and DRC, aiming to enhance regional trade and economic integration. The project, set to boost intra-regional trade currently at 28%, includes a 272 km stretch from Malaba to Kampala in Uganda. Additionally, Kenya plans to dual the Mombasa-Dodoma highway to improve trade and tourism. These initiatives are part of broader efforts to integrate the East African region and support the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
