Japan restarts a nuclear reactor in Shimane, aiming to meet rising power demands and boost profits.
Japan's Chugoku Electric Power has restarted the Shimane nuclear power station's 820 MW No. 2 reactor, inactive since the 2011 Fukushima disaster. This brings Japan's total operational reactors to 14 with a combined capacity of 13,253 MW. The restart aims to meet growing power demands from semiconductor plants and data centers. Chugoku Electric invested 900 billion yen in safety measures and expects to boost its profit by 11 billion yen, thanks to reduced fuel costs.
