UK deal secures 700 jobs with 14 new trains to be built by Hitachi by late 2027.

A £500 million deal between FirstGroup, Angel Trains, and Hitachi will build 14 new trains at Hitachi's Newton Aycliffe factory, safeguarding around 700 jobs in County Durham. The agreement, set to deliver trains by late 2027, comes after the factory faced uncertainty due to declining orders. Labour leader Keir Starmer praised the deal, but Hitachi warned that jobs could still be at risk if the northern leg of HS2 is not revived.
