New MRI technique rapidly identifies effective ovarian cancer treatments, outperforming current methods.

A new MRI technique called hyperpolarised carbon-13 imaging can boost signal strength over 10,000 times, helping doctors quickly identify which ovarian cancer tumors respond to Carboplatin chemotherapy. This method can show treatment effectiveness within 48 hours, significantly faster than current methods that take weeks or months. The technique also outperforms PET scans in distinguishing between tumor subtypes and could be tested in patients within a few years.
