Lithuania acquires LNG vessel FSRU Independence for €138.04M, boosting energy independence.

Lithuania has taken ownership of the FSRU Independence, a liquefied natural gas vessel, from Höegh Evi, a Norwegian company, registering it under the Lithuanian flag. The acquisition, costing €138.04 million, aligns with Lithuania's requirement to own the terminal by 2024. Höegh Evi will continue to manage the vessel's operations for the next five years, with an option to extend. The FSRU, crucial for Lithuania's energy independence since ceasing Russian gas imports in 2022, has provided significant gas supplies to the region.
